Feedback From First Scene Screenings
The A-Team
"What a blast from the past. Was slightly dubious that it wouldn't live up to my childhood memories but happily I can report that not only did it work well set in a more modern day but it still retained all that was fun and cool about the A-TEAM!"
Samantha Thomas - AKA
Whip It
"Enjoyed the film. Really feel good girly movie with some beautiful camera shots and sequences (the pool scene). Brilliant cast! Really novel concept - roller derby!? Does this really happen!? If so...Where do I sign up! Congratulations Drew on your first directors project!!"
Tara Calder - Maxus Global
Shutter Island
"This film was sensational: it had such a profound impact on every single audience member that the tension in the room was quite literally tangible!
It has been a long time since I last felt so moved by a cinematic experience. Beautifully shot, with a haunting soundtrack, this psychological thriller is not for the faint-hearted!
The film is graphic and harrowing, certain scenes are so disturbing that they are hard to watch. Scorsese has surely solidified his reputation as a film-making genius and this is definitely his best collaboration with De Caprio to date.
The subtle suggestions Scorsese makes throughout the film are perfectly executed so that through plot twist after plot twist one is not only left dumb-founded by the films conclusion- but mesmorized by his ability to transport us through the lead characters tortured experiences, beyond our understanding of sanity and back again.
An awesome film that will stay with you long after the credits roll! "

Boogie Woogie
"I really enjoyed this film, definitely one of the best ones you guys have put on. It was incredibly witty in a terribly British way, lots of sarcasm, sex and drugs - you can't really go wrong with that formula! Definitely one i'll be recommending."

Harry Brown
"The film was excellent, it was similar to Gran Torino except that you felt that it was a lot more realistic, and felt like it was a very accurate portrayal of inner city London. Michael Caine was amazing, and I liked the way you saw his progression losing his wife etc. I also likes how it was realistic in how good a vigilante he was - he still got knackered, and wasn't especially strong or quick. One of the best British films I've seen in a long time."
Danny Baker - PHD
"I thought the film was excellent - standout performance from Michael Caine, but also the kids in it were brilliant (they must have been, because they made me feel very geniune dislike towards them!). A really good balance between the drama of the story, and the action of his revenge plot too - it had a really good pace about it, and at no point felt like it was dragging, and it was a good twist at the end. The police officers could have been developed as characters a little more perhaps, but this aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have recommended it to plenty of friends already!"

The Cove
"The cinema itself was perfect for this screening - intimate with comfy seats. I'd been looking forward to the movie ever since I first heard about it and it definitely lived up to expectations. It's invigourated the activist in me and I will spread the word! Thanks Pearl & Dean for organising!"

"Great film - thought-provoking yet extremely entertaining. The undercover imagery was genuinely shocking intertwined with imagery of dolphins in their natural habitat which was visually stunning. The documentary delved deep into the background of whaling and fishing economics (and uncovered a truly complex situation) yet while doing so contained some unintentionally comic moments (re: 'Private Space'!). Thoroughly recommended."

The Merry Gentleman
"Great performances from Michael Keaton and Kelly Macdonald, alongside dual storylines that keep you continually interested, despite the fairly slow pace of the film following the shootings. One of the best things about the film is the way in which it breaks away from mainstream convention with an ending that leaves you thoughtful and questioning, rather than handing the answers to you on an easily digestible plate!"

"Really moving and surprisingly sad character movie. Thought it was shot in a great way and portrayal of Michael Keaton and Kelly Macdonald characters were spot on."

500 Days of Summer
"My sister and I really liked this funny and charming film. It was refreshing to see a love story with a modern, clever, and indie edge. The protagonists were likeable and realistic making a change from the usual identikit leads from a typical saccharin rom-com. It was a great film 8/10. Also the First Scene film line up has been eclectic and varied which is good as I'm not sure I would have chosen to watch this myself BUT I really enjoyed it and have recommended it to friends."
Eve Harrod - ZenithOptimedia UK
"Screenings are a great idea as they give you a better idea of the content of a film and whether it is appropriate for clients. 500 days of summer is a film that could easily be considered as just another romcom for female focused brands, but now I’ve seen its depth and independent coolness it does feel appropriate for a wider range of brands."

Julie & Julia
"The film was utterly delectable! I thought of The Hours as soon as there were 2 split stories in various decades at the opening of the film, but thankfully was uplifted by the subject matter. Meryl Streep is fantastic as Childs, who I know very well, (being Canadian). The film definitely made me very hungry - enough to seek out a glorious restaurant for some steak! Yum. The food industry will undoubtedly see an uplift in restaurant bookings after this is released!"
Jessica Dolgoy - MediaVest
"Thank you for the invitation. I found it a charming film which makes a pleasant change. Meryl Streep delivered as always. Doing a good impression is one thing but actually becoming the character is an amazing feat. I was really happy to see the chemistry between her and Stanley Tucci is still there. I don't know much about Julie Powell but Amy Adams made her likeable. Her OTT expressions were excellently countered by her husband whose dry comments stopped it from becoming too saccharine. Definitely one I'll be recommending to my mum and friends."

Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the Dinosaurs - 3D
"It was a very enjoyable experience. As it was our first 3D experience, my nephew and his parents didn't know what to expect, but the film definately exceeded all expectations. Thanks for the invite." Avrinder Virdi - Active International

The Hangover
"The screening was brillant very well handled in the perfect cinema. As for the film well its a future classic. I havent laughed so much for ages its right up there with the comedy great like Brewsters Millions. I look forward to the next p+d screening...thank you." Adam Griffin - Sony Music
"Seemed to go really smoothly, it's a great screen, really comfy seats and you always have a good view because of the tiered seating! Thought the film was very funny and actually quite well acted too. It's so much better now it's at 6.30pm instead of Friday lunchtimes, I missed out on so many great films because I couldn't get away from the office! Two thumbs up, thank you!"
